Heidelberg Materials Australia Strengthens Melbourne Concrete Operations with the Acquisition of Midway Concrete

Heidelberg Materials Australia, formerly known as Hanson Australia, is pleased to announce it has entered into a conditional purchase agreement to acquire the premixed concrete business of Midway Concrete.

Midway operates four concrete plants at Laverton, Craigieburn, Melton and Lara and has established a long-standing reputation for providing excellent customer service and the highest quality products in the greater Melbourne and Geelong areas.

Heidelberg Materials Australia’s Chief Executive, Phil Schacht, said “This acquisition complements Heidelberg Materials’ existing concrete and quarry operations within Melbourne and aligns with our strategy of acquiring bolt-on assets that support the company’s existing integrated positions in major markets.  Midway’s proven track record over the last 20 years will be a valuable addition to Heidelberg Materials’ operations.”

David and Sharon Boxshall, owners of Midway Concrete, said: “We established this family business 23 years ago in Sunshine (Melbourne) with two trucks and it grew to become one of Melbourne’s most trusted concrete suppliers. We would personally like to thank all the Midway employees and customers for their friendship and support throughout the decades and we look forward to watching Midway Concrete’s next journey with Heidelberg Materials.”

The proposed acquisition is conditional on informal merger clearance from the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission. No jobs are expected to be affected by the transaction. Both parties have agreed not to disclose the financial terms of the transaction, which is expected to be completed by mid-2025.
